BOONSBORO - Marie June Smith, 89, of Potomac Street, Boonsboro, Md., passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born March 20, 1920, in Appletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ernest Herman and Grace Marie (Hutzell) Dagenhart.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Edward Smith in 1965.

She attended Keedysville and Boonsboro area schools.

She attended Boonsboro Bible Church.

She was a homemaker and avid gardener of flowers and vegetables.

She is survived by children, Genny Kotun of Hagerstown, Earl Smith Jr. and wife Bernice Kay of Chandler, Ariz., Charles Smith and wife Sharon of Statham, Ga., Donald Smith and wife Diane of Sharpsburg, and Gregory Smith and wife Lisa of Greencastle; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two nephews.


She was preceded in death by brother, William Dagenhart, son-in-law Henry Kotun, and grandsons Stefan Kotun and Titus Smith.

There will be no viewing.

A memorial service will be Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Boonsboro Bible Church, 6741 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, with pastor Robert Welty officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Boonsboro Trolly Restoration in memory of Marie Smith, 21 N. Main St., Boonsboro, MD 21713.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff of the Lincoln Wing at Reeders Memorial Home.

Arrangements were made by the J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, Md.
