Mrs. Margery L. (Tully) Scott, 91, a resident of Homewood Assisted Living of Williamsport, Md., and formerly of 11707 Country Club Road, Waynesboro, Pa., died at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in the nursing center at Homewood. She had been in failing health for the past month.

Born May 19, 1918, in Junction City, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Edward P. and Frances L. (Fechner) Tully. She spent her early life in Junction City.

Mrs. Scott was a graduate of Junction City Senior High School with the class of 1937. She later attended Central Business College in Kansas City, Mo.


She and her husband, the late Mr. Charles William Scott, were married in November 1949. They moved to the Waynesboro area following their marriage and to their Country Club Road address in 1955, spending winter months in Lake Placid, Fla. He died Oct. 8, 1992. She entered the nursing home Aug. 4, 2009.

In her early life, Mrs. Scott was employed in the Kansas City area. In 1948, she accepted a civil service appointment with the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. Following her marriage, she continued her government employment, working at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., and Fort Ritchie, Md. She retired in 1956.

Mrs. Scott was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro, where she enjoyed helping with church activities, Mt. Vernon Chapter 398 Order of Eastern Star, Waynesboro, the Waynesboro YMCA and the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary, where she enjoyed volunteering.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Oliver, and her husband Taylor of Williamsport; and three grandchildren, Heidi Muller of Indianapolis, and Matthew S. Oliver and Mark B. Oliver, both of Williamsport.

She was the last of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Viola Neyer, and one brother, Edward Tully.

Services will be at 2 p.m, Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, in The Chapel at Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Sue D-Heedene officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

It was her request to have no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends one before services Friday afternoon at the church.
