Class of 1944



The Hagerstown High School class of 1944 will hold its 65-year reunion Saturday, Sept. 26, at noon at the Plaza Hotel.

The reunion will include a hot buffet luncheon. Tickets cost $25 per person.

Worship service



Trinity Lutheran Church, at the corner of North Potomac Street and Randolph Avenue, will return to its regular time for worship service Sunday, Sept. 13.

Praise Worship will begin at 8:30 a.m in the fellowship hall (enter off the alley to the rear of the building) and Evangelical Worship will begin at 10:55 a.m. in the sanctuary (enter off North Potomac Street).

Rally day kicks off the Sunday school season Sept. 13 in the fellowship hall at 9:45 a.m. with classes for all ages.

The best TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 308 loser for June was Renee Baker with a 3 1/4-pound loss. The best KOPS (Keeping Off Pounds Sensibly) loser was Mary Stuller. She also celebrated 15 years as a KOPS. She received flowers and the group celebrated with light snacks.

The best KOPS loser for July was Lois Wolford with a 4 1/4-pound loss. Virginia Rodgers celebrated 28 years as a KOPS. On Aug. 4, she received a dozen roses and a KOPS pledge plaque.

At the August meeting, Marie presented a program on sugar.

The group welcomed a new member, Karen Palmer.

The group meets Fridays at First Christian Church at 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. and the meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m.

TOPS 446



Thanks to Elise, TOPS 446's annual picnic took on the appearance of a banquet. Sharing in the culinary skills of each member present was a delightful experience.

At the next meeting, Sue's program will help members "Get in the Habit." Being "accountable" each week is very motivating, as well as challenging.

Anyone wanting to find support, encouragement and solutions for fighting the "battle of the bulge" while building lifetime friendships, is invited to join the group Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown.

Weigh-ins begin at 8:45 a.m.

TOPS Chapter 77 held a summer contest with members collecting 894 food items that will be donated to the Appalachia Food Project at Meadow Bridge.

Weight-loss winners for the contest were Cindy Ryder, Elsie Horst and Joan Gilbert.

The Get-R-Done contest winner for the week was Patsy Price, who had a 4 1/4-pound loss.

Jean Betker reached her goal weight to become the chapter's newest KOPS.

Members earn play money each week and a play money auction was held with some very lively bidding.

Dorothy Smith will present the program on "Never Quit" this week.

Season kickoff



The Women's Club, at 31 S. Prospect St., will hold an Opening Coffee Thursday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon to announce its activities for the 2009-10 year. Members are invited to attend and bring a guest. For more information, call Linda at 301-739-0870 between 9 a.m and 1 p.m.
