Hagerstown police respond to numerous theft calls



The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents, according to spokeswoman Barbara Pickett:

Sunday, Aug. 30

  • At 12:33 a.m., a red, black and silver 21-speed Schwinn bicycle was recovered in the 100 block of North Burhans Boulevard.

  • At 2:43 a.m., an assault was reported in the 500 block of North Locust Street.

  • At 11:02 a.m., damage to vehicle tires was reported in the 500 block of West Franklin Street.

  • At 12:44 p.m., a blue-and-green 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was reported stolen in the 200 block of West Franklin Street.

  • At 1:20 p.m., a black ESPN Games bicycle was recovered on Antietam Street.

  • At 5:11 p.m., a theft of medication was reported at CVS on Potomac Avenue.

    Saturday, Aug. 29

  • At 10:04 p.m., damage to vehicle tires was reported in the 17000 block of Perlite Way.

    Friday, Aug. 28

  • At 4:54 p.m., theft of a trailer tag was reported in the 1000 block of Rose Hill Avenue.

  • At 8:10 p.m., a car stereo was reported stolen in the 100 block of Bester Street.

  • At 11:32 a.m., a black 2005 Kia Sedona was reported stolen in the 200 block of Marion Street.

  • At 12:15 p.m., theft of jewelry was reported in the 200 block of Hager Street.

  • At 2:14 p.m., theft of a videocassette recorder was reported in the 100 block of Broadway Avenue.

  • At 9:11 p.m., a controlled dangerous substance violation was reported at an apartment on Willard Street. An arrest was made.

  • At 10:20 a.m., check fraud was reported in the 700 block of Security Road.

  • At 10:47 a.m., numerous items were reported stolen from Wal-Mart on Garland Groh Boulevard.

  • At 11:52 a.m., check fraud was reported in the 1500 block of Wesel Boulevard.

  • At 6:25 p.m., clothing was reported stolen from the Wal-Mart on Garland Groh Boulevard. An arrest was made.

    Humane Society officials help rescue calf



    Humane Society of Washington County officials helped rescue a calf that became stuck in liquid manure Monday night at Leitersburg Pike and Marsh Pike, a 911 dispatcher said.

    Rescuers were holding the animal's head out of the liquid until it could be freed, the dispatcher said.

    Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. firefighters worked with Humane Society officials to rescue the animal after the incident was reported at 8:07 p.m., the dispatcher said.

    Three steal clothing from J.C. Penney



    CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Three people entered a J.C. Penney store in Chambersburg Mall Saturday and stole jeans and T-shirts, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

    The suspects included two women and a man, all of whom were about 25 years old, police said.

    The three suspects fled the store after the 7:30 p.m. incident and left the area in a gold Saturn, police said.

    Checkpoint nets two arrests



    Two people were arrested for controlled dangerous substances violations during a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night on Halfway Boulevard west of Virginia Avenue, according to a Washington County Sheriff's Office press release.

    The checkpoint was conducted between 8 p.m. and midnight, and 452 cars passed through it, the release said.
