Erika Katharina Hillegas, 66, of 20863 Emerald Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at her home.

Born Sunday, Sept. 6, 1942, in Innsbruck, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Anton Marzoner and the late Elizabeth Huber Marzoner.

She was employed with AAFES as a reorder associate for the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Ritchie, retiring after 21 years of service.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Morris Frock American Legion Auxiliary Unit 42.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Edwin David Hillegas; one daughter, Cherryl Ann Hatfield of Frederick, Md.; one son, Brian Robert Beard of New Market, Md.; a stepdaughter, Patrice Sue (Hillegas) Kifer of Hagerstown; one sister, Ilse Peutsch of Trebur, Germany; and six grandchildren, Ariel Kifer, Amber Hatfield, Logan Hatfield, Brianne Beard, Danielle Beard and Colton Beard.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Inge Kuester; one brother, Rudi Marzoner; stepsons, Jeffrey William Hillegas and Bruce J. Beard; and grandson, Brian R. Beard Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown.

Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, and one half-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in Walker Cemetery, Shanksville, Pa., at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 1, 2009.
