Volvo Powertrain North America

Chad Butts, manager of material handling at Volvo Powertrain North America, has been named Volvo Powertrain's Employee of the Month for July.

Butts has shown immense dedication to Volvo and its people, according to a Volvo press release. He is known for going the extra mile every day and for making tremendous improvements in the material handling area. He always is pursuing ideas to achieve operational excellence, according to the release.

Love & Company

FREDERICK, Md. - Susan Bounds has been named business manager at Love & Company.

Bounds, who joined Love & Company as a staff accountant in May 2008, will manage the accounting department.

Before joining Love & Company, Bounds was co-owner and business manager of Arriva Automotive Recycling in Baltimore for 18 years.

Bounds received her MBA from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.

Washington County Department of Social Services

The Washington County Commissioners recently appointed the following the county's Board of Social Services.


o Linda Mercurio was appointed to a three-year term to the board.

Mercurio has been executive director and a professional coach of the Lawyer Re-entry Program at American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., since 2008. She has served on the faculty at William Paterson University, Ramapo College of New Jersey and Seton Hall Law School. She is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School.

o Gladys Rojas was appointed to a three-year term to the board.

Rojas is director for Comunidad Latina of Washington County. She formerly was a small-business owner, bank official, multicultural recruiter for Hagerstown Community College and grass-roots organizer for the Latina community.

o Dolores Harmon was appointed to a second three-year term on the board.

Harmon has been employed by the Maryland State Department of Education as a regional manager for family child care since 1996. As regional manager, she oversees the monitoring of all child-care facilities in Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties. She holds a bachelor of social work degree.

Maryland Correctional Training Center

Officer Janet Cutter Hall has been named Employee of the Month for August at the Maryland Correctional Training Center.

Hall was recognized for providing exceptional service and assistance during the recent Correctional Entry Level Training Program. She was commended for her detail-oriented approach and proficient knowledge, skills and abilities as an instructor.

Hall has been employed by MCTC since October 2003.

High Rock Studios

Derek Beck has been hired as a Web developer at High Rock Studios, a marketing and design firm with offices in Hagerstown and Ellicott City, Md.

Beck has 10 years of experience in Web design and graphic design, and will be responsible for Web site interface coding, design and development.

As a freelance graphic designer and Web developer, Beck earned awards for Web site design/development, logo design, brochure campaign design and stationery design.

Beck has a bachelor's degree in communication design from Kutztown (Pa.) University.

Beaver Mechanical Contractors Inc.

Service manager Robbie Eyler of Beaver Mechanical Contractors Inc. has completed the necessary requirements for Backflow Device Tester Mechanic Recertification through the Maryland Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Inc.

Backflow is the unwanted reverse flow of water, gases or other substances into a potable water supply system.

The certification allowes Eyler to execute initial and subsequent required annual testing, inspection and certification of testable backflow preventers.

Brook Lane

Dorothy Strawsburg, LCSW-C, has been hired at a therapist for Brook Lane's Abundant Life Counseling program.

Strawsburg is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Social Work.

Strawsburg previously was director of social work for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Weiss Bros. of Hagerstown

Glen Singer has been hired as company controller at Weiss Bros. of Hagerstown.

Stotler has an extensive background in accounting and business operations.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Pamela Johns has been named operations manager/vice president of Graystone Tower Bank, where she will oversee all aspects of the deposit operations and electronic banking departments.

Johns has more than 20 years of banking experience and previously served as operations manager of Tower Bank.

Johns is a graduate of Waynesboro (Pa.) Area Senior High School and the PBA Advanced School of Banking.

Advanced Chiropractic, Foot & Ankle Care P.C.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dr. Najiah Faour recently joined the staff at Advanced Chiropractic Foot & Ankle Care P.C.

Before joining Advanced Chiropractic, Faour had been in private practice in Flower Mound, Texas.

Faour graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine with a full scope of podiatric medicine and surgical practice. She completed three years of podiatric medicine and surgery residency training at Alliance Community Hospital in Ohio, where she served as chief resident.

Faour holds medical licenses in Pennsylvania and Texas. She is board qualified in foot, reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.
