Pooch Plunge set for Sept. 9 at Hagerstown pool

August 29, 2009

The sixth annual Pooch Plunge at Potterfield Pool will be held Wednesday Sept. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Claude M. Potterfield Pool, 730 Frederick St. in Hagerstown.

The event benefits the Humane Society of Washington County.

Last year's event drew the largest attendance to date with more than 200 dogs.

"It was really something to see," said Paul Miller, shelter executive director. "This is becoming an annual end-of- summer event for families interested in having a night out with their pets. I think this is a wonderful way to bid farewell to summer by treating your dog to one last swim before the weather turns cold. We hope everyone will join us for the fun."

The City of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation Department provides use of the pool each year for the event. "We are grateful to the City of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation Department and residents of Washington County and surrounding areas for supporting this event," Miller said.

Last year's event raised $1,500 for the shelter.

Drs. Marie Eckl and Rob Russon from Cumberland Valley Veterinary Clinic in Hagerstown will be on hand. Admission to the event for one dog plus one handler is $5. Additional humans or pets will cost $2 each.
