Troop 64 to mark 50th anniversary

Boy Scouts of America Troop 64 of Maugansville will recognize its 50th anniversary at a Court of Honor Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Maugansville Community Center beginning at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served.

The troop was started in 1958.

All Troop 64 Scouts and adult leaders, past and present, are invited to attend. There is no cost, and no reservations are required.

Seniors to meet

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Tops Chinese Buffet in North Village Shopping Center.

A Dutch treat lunch will be served at noon, followed by the meeting and a sharing time about vacations or any other special events that have occurred.


All seniors in the local area are invited to attend.

Fall ball

Maugansville Little League is offering fall ball for T-ball through junior league divisions.

Players who are ages 5 (turned 5 before May 1) through 14 (as of May 1, 2010) are eligible to participate.

Registration will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the press box above the concession stand at the major league field.

Registration will also be held Saturday, Sept. 5, during Maugansville Pride Day, starting at 9 a.m.

Registration costs $20. New and returning players are encouraged to register.

Nominations are being accepted for interested individuals to serve on the 2009-10 Maugansville Little League's board of directors.

The board election will be Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. during the season awards presentation at the Maugansville Ruritan building.

Pride Day

Maugansville Pride Day will be Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include crafts, food and fun.

The Maugansville Goodwill Fire Co. will be frying fresh cut french fries and holding its gold fish and ring toss games. It will also have the fire prevention safety trailer on hand as well as a recruitment campaign for new members.

Outdoor event

An outdoor event will be held by the Maugansville Baptist Church Saturday, Sept. 5, to coincide with Maugansville Pride Day.

There will be inflatable games for children, food, sale tables and other activities. Everyone is encouraged to visit the church, which is across from the entrance of the elementary school, anytime during the Maugansville celebration.

Luncheon planned

The past employees of Vishay Angstrohm (also known as Ward Leonard) will meet for lunch at 808 Junction Thursday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. The restaurant is off Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown.

Benefit auction

Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, at 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown, will hold its annual benefit auction Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.

Food will be available all day. Child care will be provided.

The gospel group By Faith will perform at 10 a.m.

A silent auction begins at 10 a.m. with live bidding starting at 11 a.m.

Items to bid on include a handmade quilt made by the ladies of the church, handcrafted items, homemade baked goods, jellies and candy. There also will be many items and gift certificates from area businesses.

Women's Club

The Women's Club, at 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown, will hold an Opening Coffee Thursday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, to announce its activities for the 2009-10 year.

Members are invited to attend and bring a guest.
