W.Va. man killed in I-81 accident

August 27, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man was killed Thursday afternoon when the commercial box truck he was driving south on Interstate 81 collided with a 2010 Ford Edge midway between the Queen Street and Dry Run Road exits, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

David Hull, age unavailable, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police press release.

After hitting the Ford, Hull's truck veered off the interstate and struck several trees, the release stated.

The driver of the Ford and a passenger in the vehicle were not injured, police said.

The crash occurred in a three-lane section of the southbound lanes, Sheriff Kenny Lemaster said.

Deputies were able to keep one lane open, but traffic backed up due to the closure of two lanes for about two hours, Lemaster said.

It was unclear what caused Hull to hit the Ford, Lemaster said.
