Barn fire considered suspicious

August 26, 2009

A fire Wednesday evening in a small barn off Robinwood Drive was being considered suspicious, according to the chief of the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co.

A nearby resident noticed the fire and thought it was a brush fire, Chief Dave Fraley said.

When firefighters arrived, they found straw on fire inside of the barn off Woodbridge Drive, Fraley said.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, which was reported at 6:06 p.m., Fraley said.

The barn, which used to be part of a farm, sits in a patch of woods that is surrounded by homes. Kids often play in the area, Fraley said.

The state Fire Marshal's office was investigating, Fraley said.
