BOONSBORO - Janice Dolores Porter, 77, of Boonsboro, Md., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at her home.

Janice was born Feb., 25, 1932, in Lovettsville, Va. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Ruth Bowers Grubb. She was the wife of her beloved husband, James Albert Porter Jr., for nearly 60 years.

Janice was a homemaker until her children were grown and then worked for different stores in Frederick Towne Mall. It was then that she went to work at Kay Jewelers, where she found her home and worked until the late 1980s.

She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Janice was a 49-year breast cancer survivor. She prayed to the Lord to let her raise her children and her prayer was answered to allow her to see her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Janice is survived by her daughters Teresa Ensor, Pamela Perkins, and Connie Butts and husband, Ricky; daughter-in-law, Annette Porter; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jo Watson, Becky Miller and Pat Grubb.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Michael Porter; three brothers, Frank, Bill, and Bobby Grubb; and three sisters, Geraldine, Betty and Jackie.

A celebration of life memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3346 Gapland Road, Rohrersville, Md. The Rev. Wendell G. McClellan will officiate.

The family will visit with friends and family one hour before the memorial service at the church.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 and/or Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3346 Gapland Road, Rohrersville, MD.
