Around Funkstown

First week

So, how did it go? The first few days of school, were they OK?

I know it went very well in our house. No one got lost in the halls or had issues with opening their locker. Teachers are A-OK.

All the things that could really stress out a student seemed to be non issues. Keep checking your child's backpack and binders for papers that need to be filled out and returned to school. They seem to trickle home during the first few weeks as do new school supply lists. Now it is just a matter of keeping pace and staying on top of the assignments ... piece of cake.

Yard sale

Don't forget, the South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will hold a yard sale at the school Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Setup starts at 7 a.m. Spaces cost $10 to rent. For more information, call 301-416-7681 or go to www.shhsrebelalumni.org.

Cans for Critters

The Humane Society of Washington County has launched its Cans for Critters program.

The public is encouraged to collect aluminum cans and drop them off at the shelter on Maugansville Road for recycling. The project will be ongoing and cans can be taken to the front entrance or into the office during regular hours. Money collected will be used to improve the lives of homeless animals and promote responsible pet ownership.
