WOLFSVILLE, Md. -- A 59-year-old woman died early Saturday in a house fire in Wolfsville, a Frederick County community just south of Smithsburg, the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services said in a press release.
Fire and rescue units were alerted to a house fire in the 14000 block of Brown Road in Wolfsville on Saturday about 12:30 a.m., division spokesman Michael P. Dmuchowski said in the release.
When firefighters arrived, one occupant met them outside and said another person still was inside, he said.
Firefighters found an unconscious woman on the second floor, which was filled with heavy smoke, Dmuchowski said. The woman was removed from the home and died at the scene, he said.
The woman's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will be performed, Dmuchowski said.
