Local women win quilting awards

CUMBERLAND, Md. - The following local quilters placed in the Schoolhouse Biennial Quilt Show, which was held at Allegany County Fairgrounds June 26-28.

Patty Prodonovich of Hagerstown was awarded second place for her entry "Vintage Flowers" in the appliqu category. She also won honorable mention for her entry "Deco II" in the small wallhanging category.

Marty Brown of Hedgesville, W.Va., received judges choice for her entry titled "Thangles Block of the Month" in the pieced machine quilting category. She also placed second in the pieced machine quliting category for her entry, "Block of the Month."


Ann C. Darling of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., won third place and judges choice for her piece, "Turning Over a New Leaf" in pieced machine quilting category.

Deadline nears for 'Our Town' contest

The deadline to enter the fourth annual Hancock "Our Town" 2009 photo contest and exhibit is Monday, Aug. 31.

Two unframed photos taken in the past five years, 8 inches by 10 inches or larger can be submitted for free. Photos may be film or digital, black and white or color. Additional entries cost $5 each. Photos may be submitted at the War Memorial Library, or at the Hancock Town Hall office.

A reception for the exhibit of winning photos will be Saturday, Sept. 26.
