Reagan Coalition to host summer picnic



MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Reagan Coalition will hold its annual summer picnic on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Black's Woods in Mercersburg. The picnic begins at 3 p.m.

U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., who represents the 6th Congressional District, will be one of the featured speakers at the picnic. Gerlach recently announced his candidacy for governor in 2010.

The Franklin County Reagan Coalition is an organization of Republican Community Leaders whose mission is to help elect qualified Republican candidates to all levels of federal, state and local office, as well as articulate the Republican values of the 40th President, Ronald Reagan, according to a news release.

Book discussion workshop is Wednesday



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bernice Crouse, executive director of the Franklin County (Pa.) Library System, will conduct a free workshop on how to facilitate a book discussion on your favorite book, or not-so-favorite book.

The workshop is designed to promote reading and lively discussion of books among all age groups. The date of the workshop is Wednesday, Aug. 26. Workshop times and locations are as follows: Grove Family Library Community Room at 2 p.m. and Coyle Free Library Afternoon Club Room at 6 p.m.

The tools learned in this workshop can be used with any book group and with the new American Album books and totes available at Franklin County Library System and Fulton County libraries.

Sign up at either Chambersburg library by Saturday.

Dolls on display in Waynesboro



WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dolls donated to the Waynesboro Historical Society - as well as some on loan from area "Baby Boomers" - will be on display in September at the Waynesboro Historical Society's headquarters, the Oller House, 138 W. Main St.

Many of the porcelain dolls on display were once owned by Lillian Ridenour, who has donated them to the society.

They will be joined by Raggedy Ann and Andy, an anniversary set on loan from Ann Backer, and "Ricky Jr.," the doll created to celebrate the birth of one of television's most famous children, the son of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo of "I Love Lucy" fame.

The doll show will be open from Sept. 1 through Oct. 3 during the Oller House's normal hours.

The Oller House is open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.

Mercersburg Townfest seeks vendors
