SMITHSBURG -- Delores Lorraine Myers Sowers, 77, of Kieffer Funk Road went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.

Born on Feb. 4, 1932, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Theodore Martin and Helen Marshall Myers.

She attended Hagerstown High School where she was head drum majorette.

She was a homemaker.

She was a Christ- ian and a member of The Hagerstown Bible Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 25 years.


Most recently, she attended Paramount Baptist Church.

She is survived by her seven children and by their spouses; one daughter, Lenora and Frank Bywaters of Smithsburg; and six sons, Douglas and Susan Sowers, Richard and Carol Sowers, Rodney and Sherry Sowers, Theron and Brenda Sowers, Vernon and Cindy Sowers of Smithsburg, and Doyle and Patti Sowers of Hagerstown; one sister, Gloria Sneckenberger; and two brothers, Vernon Myers and Wayne Myers; two sisters-in-law, Jean Carbaugh and Linda Henry.

She had 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Franklin Sowers, who went to be with the Lord Feb. 4, 1993.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, James Myers; and four sisters, Irene Swartz, Doris Durbin, Beatrice Lowry and Joyce Hill.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at Paramount Baptist Church, 13234 Marsh Pike, Hagerstown, Md. The Rev. Gerald D. Carbaugh and Pastor Larry Rickard will officiate.

There will be no viewing; a private family burial will be at a later date.
