Four Rams on preseason All-WVIAC team

Four Shepherd University players were selected to the 2009 preseason All-West Virginia Conference squad -- senior offensive lineman Jeremy Hairston, junior running back Jimmy Sutch, junior cornerback Deante Steele and senior free safety Layton Hersh.


Sutch, a Saint James graduate, gained second-team honors last season when he rushed for 885 yards and 14 touchdowns. Hairston was a first-team All-WVIAC selection last season. Steele, an NCAA Division II All-American return specialist last year, was a first-team all-conference choice at cornerback and kick returner. Hersh was a second-team honoree last season after picking off five passes.

Shepherd baseball clinics

Shepherd University head baseball coach Wayne Riser will offer baseball clinics on Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 for players ages 8-12. The clinics will be held at Fairfax Field from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The clinic will emphasize proper techniques in hitting, throwing, fielding and base running. Assistant coach Mike Spry and current Shepherd players will assist in teaching.
