Firearm found in Peters Township stream



MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Ruger firearm was found Monday in a stream near the intersection of Pa. 416 and Lemar Road in Peters Township in Franklin County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The gun was found about 9:44 p.m. by people fishing in the area, according to a press release.

Seven people charged with DUI at Pa. checkpoint



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Seven people were arrested for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint on U.S. 30 in Hamilton Township Saturday night, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

State police also said one drug violator was arrested, one motorist was jailed on a bench warrant from York County, Pa., one motorist was assisted and 48 warnings were issued.

The checkpoint extended into Sunday, state police said.

Martinsburg man charged with attempted arson



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 37-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday on charges of attempted malicious wounding and attempted first-degree arson after police were told he kicked a woman in the face multiple times and chased her with an ax, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Rocky David Sims Jr. of Cornerstone Drive in Martinsburg, was arraigned by Magistrate Harry L. Snow, who set a $25,000 bond for the defendant, according to court records.

The woman told Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy W.D. Christian that a man attempted to set an artificial plant on fire during the attack and threatened to burn the house down, according to the deputy's complaint.

The artificial plant was found melted in multiple places and lying on its side in the residence, according to Christian's complaint.

Hedgesville man faces burglary and domestic charges



HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A man found drinking alcohol in a woman's Back Creek Valley Road residence Monday night was arraigned on one felony count of burglary and other domestic charges, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records and police.

Douglas Alan Flanary, 28, of 403 Devonshire Road in Hedgesville, W.Va., was in Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday evening on a $15,000 bond set by Magistrate Harry L. Snow, according to court and jail records.

The woman told police on Monday night that after she found the door of her home kicked in and a man drinking inside, he threw the dining room table at her and later held her down against her will before she was able to get away, according to a complaint by Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy W.D. Christian.

Police found broken glass and blood on the porch of the Hedgesville-area residence, as well as blood on the door and on the floor inside the home, according to Christian's complaint. Police responded to the scene at 10:50 p.m., Christian said.

Christian said in his complaint that he later learned the defendant was registered with the state probation office as being on home confinement, according to court records.
