Church plans two events



Hagerstown Seventh-day Adventist Church, at 11507 Robinwood Drive, has two events coming up.

The third annual block party will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the church parking lot.

Events will include a dunk tank, snow cones, inflatable bounce, maze, free refreshments and other activities.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 p.m., vocal recording artist Charlotte Taylor will perform gospel music at the church.

'Doubt' to be shown at Smithsburg library



On Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m., the Smithsburg Library will show the Oscar-nominated film "Doubt" in the Community Room. The movie is free.

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the film is set in a Catholic school in New York in 1964. The principal, Sister Aloysius, feels certain that a priest is abusing one of her pupils. The priest denies the charges and it becomes her word against his.

The movie is rated PG-13 and registration is required. To register, call 301-824-7722.

Pen Mar Park



The Holders will perform at Pen Mar Park on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. as the summer concert series continues. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Golf tournament



Children's Village of Washington County Inc. will host its 15th annual Keep Our Kids Safe four-man scramble golf tournament Friday, Sept. 11, at Black Rock Golf Course.

A putting contest begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start is at noon.

Dinner follows the tournament. A bag lunch will be provided.

The entry fee is $100 per person. Corporate sponsor packages are available, as well as sponsorships for holes and carts.

CSX Transportation is the tournament sponsor. Provident Agency is the lunch sponsor. The hole-in-one prize is a 2009 vehicle.

All proceeds benefit Children's Village's life-safety education program.

Children's Village is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.
