August 17, 2009

Two area golfers had winning weekends at separate venues.

Clayton Rotz, of Chambersburg, Pa., won the 30th annual Cardinal Cup on Sunday in Greensboro, N.C., besting a field of 78 players in the 54-hole tournament at Cardinal Golf Club.

Rotz, who will be a junior at LSU, opened with a 6-under-par 64, followed with a 69 on Saturday and then finished with a 75 on Sunday on the par 71, 7,002-yard course. Rotz had an eight-shot lead heading into the final round. He was playing in the tournament on a last stop before heading to Baton Rouge, La., for the college season.

Kevin Reiber, of Waynesboro, Pa., came from behind on Sunday in the second round of the 40th annual Jake Gittlen Memorial in Hershey, Pa.
