Lillie Gertrude Baker, 88, of 18335 Woodside Drive, Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown, where she resided.

Born March 20, 1921, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Richard M. and the late Beulah B.(Yeakley) Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Baker; daughter, Anna Bell Shupp; four sisters; and seven brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, R. Sue Eckel and husband, Jim, of Hagerstown, and Lori E. Adams and husband, Dave, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; sister, Margaret L. Vanderburg of West Orange, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

During the years 1937 through 2001, Lillie was employed by Savoy Restaurant, Fairchild Aircraft in the photo lab, Peoples Drugstore (CVS) and The Green Thumb Program.

She was a member of Funkstown Post 211 American Legion Auxiliary and the Association of Retired Persons. She was a volunteer with the Western Maryland Medbank, Hagerstown Community College and a member of the Community Rescue Squad. She was an avid member of a duckpin bowling league.

Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Larry Weber officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.

Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
