Chambersburg man charged in assault

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- A Chambersburg man allegedly slammed a woman to the ground, threatened her life, prevented her from breathing and locked her in a closet for several hours, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Joshua Lee Freet, 36, was charged with assault, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and harassment, according to the release.

Police said a man and a 42-year-old woman, whose name was not released, got in an argument about children on Thursday night at a home in the 4800 block of Letterkenny Road.

Police said the man hit the woman in the face and torso. After body-slamming her on a bedroom floor, he put his knees on her chest and covered her mouth and nose with his hand, police said.

He allegedly threatened more than once that he would kill her, the news release says.

The man locked the woman in a closet for several hours, periodically opening the door to assault her, police said.

The woman escaped while the man was sleeping, police said.
