Mrs. Margaret S. (Smith) "Peggy" McCleaf, 85, of 13365 Flohr Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., entered into eternal rest at 1:43 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

She was born on July 28, 1924, in Boonsboro, Md.; she was the daughter of the late Benjamin L. and Henrietta Mae (Foltz) Smith. She lived her early life in Boonsboro.

Mrs. McCleaf received her high school diploma while serving in the military.

She and her husband of more than 52 years, Mr. William C. "Bill" McCleaf, were married on Sept. 20, 1956, in Winchester, Va. They moved to the present residence in 1960.


Mrs. McCleaf was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Blue Ridge Summit. She was a past member of BPO Elks Lodge 731 Ladies Auxiliary and Blue Ridge Garden Club.

She enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Lisa R. Rowe of Waynesboro, Pa.; two granddaughters, Kati R. Rowe and Amanda B. Bowser, both of Waynesboro; one sister, Nancy Harris of Sunset Beach, N.C.; one brother, William L. Smith of Boonsboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bradley C. McCleaf, who died May 30, 1981; and one brother, Benjamin J. Smith.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 13646 Summit Ave., Blue Ridge Summit, with Father Barton Berry officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, Md.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, P.O. Box B, Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214.
