Book signing at Rouzerfest

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Local author Robert L. Saunders will sign his latest book, "John Paul Jones: Finding the Forgotten Patriot," from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Rouzerfest, Red Run Park, Pa. 16, east of Waynesboro.

Interfaith family picnic

The annual Interfaith Family Picnic will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at City Park, 501 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown. The picnic will be in the pavilion next to the concession stand. Enter on Park Drive for closest parking, look for balloons. Free burgers, (kosher) hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Bring a hot or cold dish to share and place settings for your group.

Food safety for volunteers

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro Recycling Task Force will present a free program on food safety.


Christopher Herrmann, an expert in food safety, will present a 60-minute program, "Cooking for Groups - A Volunteer's Guide to Food Safety" from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug., 19, at Boonsboro Community Center in Shafer Park.

Following the program, participants may stay for the Recycling Task Force's monthly meeting. For information, call Barbara Wetzel at 301-791-1291.

Townfest seeks $100 community sponsors

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - The Mercersburg Area Chamber of Commerce is planning the 30th annual Mercersburg Townfest for Saturday, Sept. 26.

Festival organizers anticipate more than 100 vendors; nonstop musical entertainment in the square, at Mercersburg Elementary School and at the First United Methodist Church; the FUMC annual fallfest; Mercersburg Veterinary Clinic's Petfest; Long Acres Farm's National Alpaca Day celebration; Stoners' Dairy Farm Corn Maze; and the Mercersburg Farmer's Market.

Community contributions pay for insurance, emergency services, etc., marketing, and entertainment and Kids Corner games, prizes, pumpkins.

The chamber is soliciting donations of $100 to support Townfest. Contributors' names will appear as sponsors online at and , on all press releases, and ads and in publications before, during and after the event. Call 717-328-5827.
