Braves drop Suns in 14th

August 14, 2009

The big inning giveth and the big inning taketh away.

Rome scored four runs in the 14th inning, after losing a four-run lead in dramatic fashion in the ninth, to score a 10-6 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Thursday.

The Braves owned a 6-2 lead in the ninth until Chris Curran ripped a grand slam to right as the first four Suns reached base to start the inning.

The two teams struggled to get ahead until the 14th.

Braeden Schlehuber led off the 14th with a single off Suns reliever Carlos Peralta. With Yoel Campusano running, Chais Fuller and Steve Shults followed with singles to bring in the go-ahead run.

Two more singles by Ryan Barba and Shayne Moody, along with a Hagerstown error, brought in the remaining three runs for the victory.

The Suns fell behind 6-1 through eight innings.

Curran finished with four hits to go with his four RBIs. Tyler Moore and Steven Souza also drove in runs.
