August 13, 2009

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Former Clear Spring High School star Adam Mills, recently promoted from Portland, Maine, to Pawtucket, R.I., in the Boston Red Sox farm system, made his first start of the season for the Triple-A club on Wednesday night.

Mills, who fashioned a 10-5 record for Portland, including eight straight wins, was hit hard early and Pawtucket suffered a 6-2 loss to Charlotte.

Mills allowed five runs on six hits in the bottom of the first inning after Pawtucket had scored two in the top of the first. He allowed a pair of hits in a scoreless second inning and was lifted in the third when he walked a batter and gave up a hit to open the inning.

Mills was also back in familiar surroundings, having graduated from North Carolina-Charlotte.
