HANCOCK -- Helen R. Eddy, age 93, of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at her home.

Born Aug. 16, 1915, in Hancock, Md., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Bessie Beard Hess and the widow of James H. Eddy Sr., who died Oct. 9, 1991.

She attended Hancock schools.

She was retired from Londontown Manufacturing, Hancock, Md., and was formerly employed as a seamstress with Jacob Brothers.

She was a member of the Hancock Historical Society and the AARP.

She was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church and the Philathia Sunday School Class.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret R. Weller of Hancock, Md.; one son, James H. Eddy Jr. of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one sister, Kathleen Bohrer of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren, Barbara Strunk, Donna Souders, Nicole Coles, Jamie Eddy and Simba Souders; four great-grandchildren, Kailea McCormick, Shelly Strunk, Korinne Coles and Abby Coles; one great-great-grandson, Noah James McCormick/Ficher. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lanahan and Margaret Long; and two brothers, William Hess and Kenneth Hess.


A service will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Hancock United Methodist Church. The Rev. Duane L. Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Rehobeth United Methodist Cemetery, near Hancock, Md.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md., Friday ffrom 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contribution be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to The Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 W. Main St., Hancock, MD 21750.
