HANCOCK - Sandra Lucas Jackson, age 61, of High Germany Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at her home.

Born Nov. 30, 1947, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of Arthur L. Lucas of Hancock, Md., and the late Idella V. Trail Lucas.

She was a 1965 graduate of Hancock High School, a 1968 graduate of Towson University Teachers College and received her master's degree from Shippensburg University.

She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education as a teacher, and taught in the Washington County school system for 40 years.


She was a member of the National Education Association, a member of the WCTA Washington County, a member of the MTSA Maryland State and a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church.

Besides her father she is survived by her husband, William C. Jackson; two sons, Marty L. Adams of Greencastle, Pa., and Randy E. Adams of Williamsport, Md.; stepdaughter, Valerie A. Roach of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and one brother, Norty Lucas and wife, Bonnie, of Big Pool, Md. She was preceded in death by twin daughters, Sheila and LeAyn Adams; and one sister, Tammy DiNenna.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Hancock United Methodist Church. The Rev. Duane Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Rehobeth United Methodist Cemetery, Mercersburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday 10 to 11 a.m.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
