Franklin County youth group has had busy summer

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County 4-H Pig Club has had an eventful summer.

The club has participated in the following events:

o The annual club trip to Hersheypark, Pa., was June 23.

o On July 18, the club leaders and members toured the members' facilities and checked their respective 4-H projects.

That evening, the club had a family picnic at the Hamilton Ruritan picnic grounds along Back Creek in Chambersburg.

After the meal, the members participated in games and relay races. The evening drew to a close with 4-Hers and their parents playing a game of Wiffle Ball.

o The fitting and showing demonstration was July 27. The demonstration was conducted by club leaders and club vice president Austin Heck, who allowed the club to use his animals and facilities for the demonstration.

o The end-of-summer event for the 4-H members will be Saturday's 4-H Pig Club Round-Up. Approximately 35 members will show at least one market hog and then the sale will occur. There will be approximately 75 hogs sold that evening.

The club would like to invite the public to the Franklin County Fair Aug. 16 to 22 at the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club grounds off Pa. 995 to support the porkburger and hamburger stand.

Proceeds will go to the 4-H Pig Club.
