Martinsburg man wounded in shooting

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Martinsburg man was wounded Tuesday in a shooting in the 600 block of South Queen Street, Martinsburg Police said in a news release.

Shavar Thompson, 25, was found on the front porch of his residence with a bullet wound in his left shoulder, police said.

The wound was not life-threatening. Thompson was taken to City Hospital for treatment, police said.

The shooting was reported at 11:14 p.m.

Thompson told police he was approached by a person in the backyard of his residence and was shot once. He did not report any conversation with the shooter.

Police do not believe the shooting was random, the release said.
