Support group for the blind to hold picnic at Pangborn Park

Blind Industries and Services of Maryland's Washington County Senior Support Group will host a picnic at Pangborn Park's East Pavilion in Hagerstown Friday, Aug. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The picnic is free to the public, and those who are blind and visually impaired are encouraged to attend.

Staff and senior participants will be on hand to provide information about the support group and training programs. In addition, product demonstrations of aids and appliances designed to help blind people live independently will be presented.

Food will be available, including hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, potato salad, coleslaw and desserts. Games and live music are also planned.

The group meets the third Friday of every month, starting at 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Ave. in Hagerstown.

The group has 12 regular participants. Anyone 55 years or older and blind or severely visually impaired is eligible to join.

The group also offers skills training classes in Braille, cane travel, computers and independent home living at the church on alternate Fridays at 10 a.m.
