BOONSBORO - Joseph Luther Solomon "Tommy" Thomas III, 63, of Boonsboro, Md., died unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 19, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph Luther Solomon Thomas Jr. and Mary Jane Mowen Thomas.

He received a degree in accounting from Hagerstown Business College.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 12 years.

He retired from MCTC as a dietary supervisor after 27 years, and was previously employed as office manager for Antietam Motors.


He attended Virginia Avenue Church of God.

He was a member of Washington County Antique Tractor Club, Farm Bureau and was a pigeon fancier.

He was a notary public.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Sprankle Thomas; a daughter, Shelley Thomas of Hagerstown; a son, Mark Solomon Thomas and wife, Laura, of Boonsboro; a sister, Constance Elizabeth Thomas of Boonsboro; a grandson, Michael Solomon Thomas; a nephew, Greg Bowers; and a great-niece and a great-nephew.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Dr. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
