August 07, 2009

GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- Two people were badly injured Thursday when a car skidded off I-81, down an embankment and into a tree, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

The driver, a 17-year-old girl, was thrown from the car during the crash, police said.

She was flown to Altoona Hospital, police said. Police did not release her name and her condition was not available Friday.

A passenger, Tracy Steven Stitely of Chambersburg, was taken to Washington County Hospital by ambulance, police said. Stitely was listed in fair condition Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said the 17-year-old was driving south on I-81 in a 1996 Acura Intergra when she passed another vehicle at a high speed. She then tried to move back to the right lane and lost control, police said.
