MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The regular meeting of the Berkeley County Board of Health at 4 p.m. Monday will be in the Berkeley County Commission meeting room on the second floor of the county's administrative office building.
Berkeley County Health Department administrator Bill Kearns confirmed Friday the board moved the meeting to accommodate residents who are interested in proposed revisions to the health department's indoor smoking ordinance.
A petition was circulated by business owners who are concerned about potential ordinance revisions that would no longer include an exemption for them.
The current indoor smoking ban includes exemptions for "free standing" bars, which are defined in the regulations as establishments that have 50 percent or greater of total sales in alcoholic beverages, hotel/motel rooms rented to guests and conference or meeting rooms or public and private assembly rooms of hotels, motels and fraternal organizations while they are used for private functions.
