Area roundup -- Schultz wins 4th straight Shootout

Beaver Creek Country Club professional Dirk Schultz won his fourth consecutive Chi-Chi's Shootout on Thursday as part of the WACO week of events.

Schultz and Denny Stoner were deadlocked through the 18th hole and went to a chipoff. After Stoner's chip of 6 feet, 6 inches, Schultz knock his effort to 6-1 for the win.

Kenny Smith was third, Pat Steiner was fourth and Mike Butts finished fifth. Schultz had the long drive on hole 13 of 330 yards, and Smith won the closest to the pin on No. 14 at 11 feet.

Fisher wins W.Va. Amateur

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Tim Fisher, of Statts Mills, W.Va., shot the only round under 70 in four days and it gave him the West Virginia Amateur title on Thursday at The Greenbrier.

Fisher fired a 5-under-par 67 and rallied to edge 12-time champion Pat Carter by one stroke. Fisher ended with a 72-hole stroke total of 285.

Chuck Ingram, formerly of Boonsboro and now residing in Shepherdstown, W.Va., had a final-round 80, ending with a 301 in a tie for 22nd place.

Mills shines for Portland

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Former Clear Spring star Adam Mills continued his pitching dominance in the Eastern League on Thursday as the Portland Sea Dogs beat Altoona, 6-1.

Mills won his eighth straight game, a Portland franchise record, and moved to 10-5 on the season as he allowed only five hits with no walks over eight innings against Altoona. He struck out eight.

Mills went 6-0 with a 2.31 earned run average in July as he rebounded from a 2-5 start. He has not lost a game since June 21.

Portland is a Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
