August 05, 2009

SALISBURY, Md. -- Nathan Moreau pitched seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts to lead the Delmarva Shorebirds past the Hagerstown Suns 6-2 on Wednesday in the South Atlantic League.

Moreau (5-2) allowed four hits and a walk. He got the best of Suns starter Patrick Lehman (0-1), who pitched five innings and gave up six hits and four earned runs while striking out four.

Delmarva took a 2-0 lead against Lehman in the first inning. Greg Miclat singled, Ronnie Welty hit an RBI double and Joseph Mahoney singled in Welty.

The Shorebirds made it 3-0 in the second on Luis Bernardo's home run. Bernardo added an RBI double in the fifth, and Delmarva scored an unearned run in both the sixth inning -- on a wild pitch -- and the eighth, on a passed ball and another wild offering.
