August 04, 2009

The Smithsburg Lions Club celebrated its 62nd Recharter Night recently at the Mountaingate Restaurant in Waynesboro, Pa., where President Jack Wenthe welcomed members and guests, along with District 22-W Gov. Susan Timmons and her husband, Rodney.

The club received six Lions Pyramids for $6,000 donated to Lions Eye Research. They were presented to Lion Charles Fishack for his 53 years of perfect attendance; Lion Ray Killian for his work with blood drives and candy sales; Lion Jeff Weaver for his work in service with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; Lion Jerry Weaver for his service as greeter, medical equipment and constant support with fundraisers; Lion Mike Dayhoff for his service with printing needs and fundraising; and Lion Frank Schaller for his service as treasurer.

In March, Jeff Weaver was recognized by the Washington County District of the Mason-Dixon Council of the Boy Scouts of America with a community service award for his work with the Lions Club as a partner with the Boy Scouts.

Fishack, who served as president of the club in 1961-62 and district governor in 1965-66, rededicated the charter to the club, along with Timmons.
