Suns top Shorebirds with 3 runs in ninth

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Hagerstown Suns broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the ninth inning Tuesday to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-1 in the South Atlantic League

Facing reliever Travis Keating (5-3), who had worked a scoreless seventh and eighth, Derek Norris led off with a walk and scored on Tyler Moore's triple to right. Steven Souza's double to right scored Moore before Charlie Fermaint's single left runners at first and third with no outs.

Keating was relieved by Mick Mattaliano, who got Michael Guerrero to ground into a double play, but Souza scored to make it 4-1.

Delmarva took a 1-0 lead in the first against Hagerstown starter A.J. Morris. Xavier Avery singled with one out, went to second on an errant pickoff throw and scored on Elvin Polanco's two-out single to right.

The Suns tied the game in the fourth against Shorebirds starter Chris Salberg. Steve Lombardozzi hit a one-out double to left and scored on Moore's single.

Morris worked five innings for the Suns, allowing six hits and no walks while striking out four. Juan Jaime (1-0) got the win with a perfect eighth, striking out two, and Carlos Peralta earned his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.

Salberg went six innings for Delmarva, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out five.
