Welby "Pud" Marlyn Hennesy, 95, of 922 Armstrong Ave., Hagerstown, Md., went to be with our Lord, surrounded by his daughter and grandson, Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, in Hagerstown.

Born Friday, Sept. 26, 1913, in Fairplay, Md., he was the son of the late Harry J. Hennesy and the late Elizabeth Miller Hennesy.

His wife, Evelyn Meyers Hennesy, preceded him in death in 2000.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the South Pacific.

He retired from John Morrell and Co. in 1977 after 27 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was a member of the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame; National Jousting Hall of Fame; American Legion Post 222 Clear Spring; Beaver Creek Country Club; and Elks Lodge 378.

He is survived by his daughter, Fran Marshall of Hagerstown, who was his caregiver for nine years; grandson, Brian Welby Koontz and wife, Misty Renee, of Hagerstown; one great-grandson, Skyler Matthew Koontz; one great-granddaughter, Briana Grace Koontz; one niece, Susan Beard and husband, Bob, of Hagerstown; one nephew, David Baker and wife, Sandy, of Florida; and longtime friends and neighbors, Dottie and Rodger Rhodes.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack S. Hennesy.

Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Rest Haven Cemetery with the Rev. Eric A. Norgard and the Rev. Blaine Feightner officiating.

Family will receive friends Aug. 5 at 4 p.m. at 908 Kenley Ave., Hagerstown.
