NEEDMORE, Pa. -- Emma May (Granny) Keefer, age 97, of Gem Bridge Road, Needmore, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born June 15, 1912, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Cora Shaw Lynch, and the widow of Marshall Keefer, who died in 1963.

She was a member of Damascus Christian Church, a homemaker and she was much loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Shives, Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, George "Bud" Keefer and Paul E. Keefer, both of Needmore; one brother, Reed Lynch of McConnellsburg; eight grandchildren, John Keefer, Mitzi Carbaugh, Melissa Harvey, Darce Hines, Sharon Mellott, Teresa Shives, Carol Jean Grove and Donald Keefer; 10 great-grandchildren, Sarah Keefer, Jessica Large, Valerie Large, Lindsay Wood, Miranda Mellott, Carrie Mellott, Emma Grove, Cooper Grove, Nicklas Harvey and Emily Harvey; and great-great-grandchildren, Reese Mellot, Elijah Strait, Austin Large, Ashley Wood, Dylan Wood and Calie Large.


She was preceded in death by one son, John Keefer; three sisters, Helen Waltz, Mary Truax and Betty Everetts; and three brothers, John Lynch, Willard Lynch and Charles Lynch.

A service will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, with the Rev. Loy Garber officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Christian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
