National Night Out slated for Tuesday

August 03, 2009

Hagerstown is among the communities observing National Night Out, which is Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairgrounds Park.

Hagerstown Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II and members of the City Council will be on hand for the event, which will include a dunk tank, rock-climbing wall, and demonstrations by local police and fire departments. Food and refreshments will be available.

Also at this year's crime/drug prevention event, Mason's Friendship Lodge 84 of Hagerstown will offer the Maryland Masonic Child ID Program (MdCHIP) child recovery and identification program.

The organization asks that parents who want to participate in the free program bring their child's photo and vital information, such as distinguishing marks and scars; allergies; medications; the child's height and weight; an emergency contact name, address and phone numbers; and parents' work, cell and other phone numbers.

All information is collected on-site, processed, and provided to the parent or guardian in an envelope. After each child's information is processed, the data is deleted and erased from the computer and the only item retained by MdCHIP is the signed permission slip.
