Leadership Washington County

Cindy Jackson, executive director of Leadership Washington County, recently attended the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Community Leadership Retreat at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Md.

Jackson was among more than 70 participants from 30 community leadership programs in seven states.

Volvo Powertrain

Will Miller was named Employee of the Month for June by Volvo Powertrain.

Miller, a staff engineer, was recognized for his positive attitude and willingness to help others even when a task falls outside of his job duties. His energy, passion and commitment to getting the job done were highlighted by the company.

Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors

At June's membership meeting of the Pen-Mar Regional Association of Realtors, the following awards were announced:

Robert F. Barrick of the engineering and environmental consulting firm ARRO, based in Lancaster, Pa., has received his license as a Professional Engineer (PE) from the Maryland Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.

Barrick joined ARRO in August 2008 and serves as an Engineer III in the Hagerstown office. He is active in land development and site design, groundwater resource evaluations and appropriations, water resources plans, water and wastewater storage and treatment facilities design, municipal and county ordinance development, and environmental consulting.

Barrick has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland and passed the Maryland FE/EIT examination in October 2007.

Hersh Business Services

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Brett Hersh, owner of HBS Class Action Administration, a division of Hersh Business Services, recently had an article published in The West Virginia Record, a legal journal.

The article, titled "Do-It-Yourself Class Action Administration," relates the steps involved in administrating a class action and builds upon a framework presented at the West Virginia Employment Lawyers Association Conference last year.

HBS Class Action Administration has managed the distribution of more than $11 million to more than 10,000 class members in 48 states.

Smith Elliott Kearns & Co.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - DoriAnn Hoffman of Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. LLC has successfully completed the requirements to be licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Dori earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Penn State University and has more than 25 years of auditing and accounting experience, including 10 years as senior vice president/chief financial officer at a national bank.

She joined the Chambersburg office in 2004 and specializes in providing audit and accounting services to the firm's financial institution clients.

Allegany Dental Care

Dr. David Williams of Allegany Dental Care recently presented the paper, "Dentists - The forgotten provider in Mass Casualty Incidents and the barriers to their full utilization," at the 16th World Congress on Disaster and Emergency Medicine in Victoria, British Columbia.

The conference was organized by the World Association for Emergency and Disaster Medicine, an association dedicated to improving the everyday delivery of prehospital and emergency health care, and enhancing disaster health and preparedness.

Mid-Atlantic Veterinary Hospital

Cheryl D. Seroka, a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, has joined Mid-Atlantic Veterinary Hospital.

She joins Drs. Daniel Frankin, Phillip Turfle and Grace Sollenberger at the veterinary hospital.

Candice Wagaman of Hagerstown received the Crystal Vision Award from Touchstone Crystal during a ceremony at Whispering Pines Conference Center in West Greenwich, R.I.

The Crystal Vision Award is the company's top honor, going to the independent sales consultant who inspires others, and who is committed to their business and the overall betterment of Touchstone Crystal. The recipient of this award is chosen from more than 350 candidates.

FREDERICK, Md. - Adam Willard, a Web developer at Wood Street Inc., has completed his Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) certification for Dreamweaver.

Wood Street is a Web design and development firm offering services that range from Web and interactive development to traditional print and Internet marketing solutions. It serves clients in Maryland, northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
