SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Brianne Kirkpatrick was recently inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Shippensburg University.

The daughter of J. Brian and Shawn Kirkpatrick of Greencastle, Pa., Brianne will be a senior majoring in elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. Standards for election are extremely high. Membership is by invitation only to the top 7.5 percent of second-semester juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students.

Brianne is also a member of the Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society and has been on the dean's list every semester.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Brian Patrick Downey received his masters of science degree in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland during the School of Engineering commencement May 22.

Brian is the son of Tom and Suzanne Downey of Smithsburg and the grandson of Ken and Dot Gutshall of Smithsburg and Judy Downey of Hagerstown.




COLLEGE Park, Md. - Gretchen Elizabeth Downey, a conservation biology major, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of Maryland.

Gretchen was inducted into the Primannum Honor Society and completed training to serve as an Images tour guide at the college.

She is the daughter of Tom and Suzanne Downey of Smithsburg.




EMMITSBURG, Md. - Kyle R. Kane of Boonsboro has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Mount St. Mary's University.

Kane, a sophomore at the Mount, achieved dean's list honors by maintaining a 3.4 or higher grade-point average.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Kane.




ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Shoval Resnick of Hagerstown earned a spot on Cedar Crest College's spring dean's list. This academic honor is reserved for students who earn at least a 3.65 grade-point average on a 4-point scale.




BOSTON, Mass. - The following area students have been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Berklee College of Music:

Brandon Rada of Hagerstown

Jessica Mellott of Frederick, Md.

Vincent Welch of Frederick.




SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Jonathan Miller, a 2008 graduate of Boonsboro High School, was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Shippensburg University.

He is a freshman accounting major.

Jonathan is the son of John and Sally Miller of Keedysville.




NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Amanda Sue Breeden of Williamsport will receive a $2,000 grant to attend Trevecca Nazarene University.

She was selected based on academic achievement, leadership and service in school, church and community.




Shannon J. Delaney of Hagerstown, a recent graduate of Smithsburg High School, has been offered, and has accepted both the Jess Fisher Pre-Engineering Scholarship and the Provost Scholarship to attend Towson University this fall.

The Jess Fisher Pre-Engineering Scholarship is a four-year donor-funded endowed undergraduate scholarship covering tuition and fees and is offered to one incoming freshman who has earned academic distinction during their high school careers, especially in math and science courses.

The four-year Provost Scholarship is also awarded based upon academic performance.

Shannon plans to enroll in a dual-degree program majoring in physics and pre-engineering.

During her high school career, Shannon achieved Distinguished Honor Roll each marking period, was a member of the National Honor Society, serving as vice president during her senior year and was a four-year member of the Student Government Association.

She was awarded multiple Success Through Academic Recognition (STARS) awards and was Smithsburg High School's 2008 Homecoming Queen. Additionally, Shannon played soccer for the Leopards and was a senior captain.

She is the daughter of Marty and Cindi Delaney.




HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The following area students graduated from Juniata College May 16:

Candace Marie Bard of Warfordsburg, Pa., received a Bachelor of Science degree in unified elementary and special education. While at Juniata, Bard achieved the dean's list. Bard is the daughter of Dwight and Lori Bard and is a 2005 graduate of Southern Fulton Junior-Senior High School.

Jessica Nicole Ritchey of Greencastle, Pa., received a Bachelor of Science degree in human interaction: emphasis on exceptionalities. Ritchey is the daughter of Randy and Vickie Ritchey and is a 2005 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

Chad Wesley Steiner of Frederick, Md., received a Bachelor of Arts degree in culture and human interaction. While at Juniata, Steiner was a member and three year starter for the Juniata College Football Team where he finished his career with over 85 receptions and over 800 yards with four touchdowns and also served as Captain. Steiner is the son of Randall and Cheryl Steiner and is a 2003 graduate of Frederick High School.
