Cledis Earl Franks, 70, of 253 Sunbrook Lane in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Thursday, March 30, 1939, in Gillis Mills, Tenn., he was the son of the late Edward Wayne Franks and the late Agnes Florene Perry Franks.

He attended school in Tennessee and later served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was employed by the federal government, retiring after 20 years of service.

He was a member of American Legion Post 126 of Forrestville, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Ruth Franks; two daughters and one son from a previous marriage, Charlotte Stidham, Carol Jewell and Dennis Franks, all of Luray, Va.; two sons, Edward Franks of Emporia, Kan., and William Franks of Reston, Va.; four sisters, Shelby Wilkerson, Joyce Bishop, Linda Carroll and Janice Robertson, all of Tennessee; four brothers, Jerry Franks, Roger Franks, Danny Franks and Michael Franks, all of Tennessee; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Franks.

Services will be Friday, July 31, 2009, at noon at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jacqueline A. Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 31, one hour before services at the funeral home.
