MAUGANSVILLE, Md. - Richard Carson Shain I, 63, of Maugansville, Md., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2009.

Born Jan. 7, 1946, in Hagerstown, Md., to the late James Edward and June Doris Eichelberger Shain.

He was a 1964 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He also attended Hagerstown Junior College.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was employed by Miller/Anderson of Hagerstown as an estimator. He was a master plumber. He taught plumbing for the Cumberland Valley Chapter of ABC, and also worked part time for Lowe's of Hagerstown for many years.

He was a member of Greencastle First Assembly of God, Greencastle, Pa.

He was a past member of Maugansville Fire Department, where he was an emergency medical technician.

Survivors include wife, Mary G. Willson Shain, married for 42 years, of Maugansville; son, Richard C. Shain II and his wife, Kristie, of Seaside, Calif.; daughter, M. Richelle Scrugham and husband, Steven, of Hagerstown; daughter, Susan C. Shain of Hagerstown; special friend, Stephanie L. Shain of Hagerstown; brother, James E. Shain of Waynesboro, Pa.; grandson, Brody A. Shain of Hagerstown; grandson, Jared B. Shain of Georgia; granddaughter, Chloe C. Shain of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by infant grandchildren Dylan and Hannah Scrugham; mother-in-law, Gertrude Willson Avey; and father-in-law, Jack Willson.

A memorial service will be held at Greencastle First Assembly of God, 525 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle, on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Barnes and the Rev. Darryl Hogue officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
