July 29, 2009

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A juvenile offender has pleaded guilty to escaping from a state-run detention center near Sabillasville, Md., along with 13 other youths during a violent episode in May.

Eighteen-year-old Julian Jackson, of Randallstown, pleaded guilty to the sole charge of second-degree escape Wednesday in district court in Frederick.

Jackson was 18 during the May 27 incident and was charged as an adult. He is the first to face judgment in adult court for his role in the escape.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Prosecutors say they will ask for one year of incarceration at Jackson's sentencing Oct. 1.

Four youths who were under 18 at the time also have been charged as adults.
