Summer slipping away

Where has July gone? It was certainly full of activity and great weather. Now, the serious countdown begins for the first day of school. Are you aware that the young scholars head back to class Aug. 19? Yes indeed, so that means we need to get serious about checking the school supply lists and getting those end-of-summer haircuts. Before we load the children down with backpacks and send them out the door, let's see if we can find a few more things to do in these last blissful weeks of summer.

Back-to-school event

In keeping with the back-to-school theme, Hagerstown Community College will hold its ninth annual Lollipopalooza Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Alumni Amphitheater.

HCC's Student Government Association sponsors the event, which includes a dance party with children's music and events. The event is free and open to the public. However, a donation of at least one school supply is encouraged. All donations will benefit Children In Need.

Yard sale

Can we squeeze in one more yard sale before summer ends?

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church on Maryland Avenue will hold a yard sale Saturday, starting at 7 a.m. There will be a bake table, as well.

Rabies clinics

The Humane Society of Washington County will hold rabies clinics Saturdays, Aug. 8 and Sept. 19.

The August clinic will take place at the Humane Society on Maugansville Road and will be held during the annual Dog Wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The September clinic will be held at Doub's Woods Park during Bark in the Park.
