George D. Kretzer, 70

George Donovan Kretzer, 70, of 15132 National Pike, Hagerstown, died Saturday July 25, 2009, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Md.

He was born near Clear Spring on Nov. 13, 1938. He was the son of the late Millard E. Kretzer Jr. and Olive C. Rhodes Kretzer.

He graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1957.

After graduating, he served three years in the U. S. Marine Corps, during which time he escorted and was a guard for President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He also received a Purple Heart.


He was employed at Fairchild Aircraft and Rohr Industries, from which he retired.

He is survived by his wife, F. Irene "Renee" Turner Kretzer; three sons, Steve D. Kretzer of Smithsburg, and Victor M. Kretzer and George D. Kretzer Jr., both of Hagerstown; two siblings, Joyce M. Padgett of Clear Spring and Millard "Ted" E. Kretzer III of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Steve, Samantha and Sarah Kretzer; two nieces, Kathy Stiles and Julie Heiney; two nephews, Ted and Curt Kretzer; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; and a number of stepgrandchildren.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no services or viewing, but a gathering for remembrance will be arranged at the family's convenience.
