Area roundup -- Hagerstown Colt stars ousted in region final

July 26, 2009

STRUTHERS, Ohio -- Youngstown (Ohio) defended the winners' bracket and knocked off Hagerstown Colt All-Stars for the second time in two days on Sunday with a 6-4 decision to win the East Zone West Region title.

Hagerstown reached the championship round by defeating Center Township (Ohio) 14-2 in the opener. Hagerstown would have had to defeat Youngstown twice to win the title and advance to the Zone tournament.

Youngstown scored all six of its runs in the first two innings with the help of four Hagerstown errors. Hagerstown battled back to within 6-3 and loaded the bases in the sixth inning, but failed to score.

Youngstown's Brian Lesher controlled Hagerstown on four hits in his complete-game victory while striking out seven. Aaron Stoner had two hits and Aaron Dinterman drove in two runs for Hagerstown.

In the opener, Patrick Hudson and Jordan Miller combined on a four-hitter to pace Hagerstown. Josh Short, Stoner and Dinterman had two hits each in the win.
