Hagerstown High class of 1936 gathers for 73rd anniversary

The 73rd anniversary reunion of the Hagerstown High School class of 1936 was held June 27 at Fountain Head Country Club.

Twenty-three classmates and 23 guests attended the luncheon.

The invocation was given by John W. Whitmore. After a luncheon of crab cakes or chicken Marsala, music was provided by the Waynesboro Kitchen Band, headed by Marilyn McCarney. The group was highly entertaining.

A tribute was given to the class members who have died since the last reunion: William Knode, Virginia Couchman Kinsey, Phyllis Fridinger Godlove, Jean Heckman Kefauver, Ann Matthews Haynes, John V. Waggoner, Ellen Reath Wert, Hilda Miller Sprecher, Helen Keller Kepner and Russell W. Long.

The entertainment continued with songs played on the harmonica by Merle Barlup. This was followed by a singalong led by John W. Whitmore. The table floral arrangements were given as door prizes.


The reunion committee included Helen Zentmyer Kreykenbohm, chairperson; Norman Holzapfel, Belle Kretzer Greenfield, Henrietta Johnson Burns, Mildred LeFevre, Kathryn Mowrer Latimer, Genevieve Wyant, John W. Whitmore, Merle Barlup and Helen Rohrer Smeak.

The program was published by the family of Max O. Mogensen. The benediction was given by Genevieve Wyant.

The 74th reunion will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010, at noon at Fountain Head Country Club.
